How the Menstrual Cycle Works

Understanding Her Cycle

A woman’s menstrual cycle spans about 28 days on average, flowing through four unique phases. Each phase brings its own rhythm, shaping hormones, energy, emotions, and overall well-being.

Think of it as the body’s natural calendar; shifting from rest, to growth, to peak energy, and back to reflection.

Every phase matters, and knowing them helps you care with more intention.

Click a phase below to explore what’s happening in the body, what supports it best, and how to move through each season with more ease.

Phase 1 - Winter

Menstrual ( 3 - 7 days)

Like the quiet winter of your body’s seasons, the Menstrual Phase is a time of release and renewal. The uterine lining drifts away like leaves falling from a tree, making space for new growth. Energy may feel low, like a dimmed candle, inviting you to rest and retreat. Wrap yourself in warmth, move gently, and let this phase be your moment of stillness before the bloom.

Phase 2 - Spring

Follicular (7 - 10 days)

The Follicular Phase is your spring; fresh, bright, and full of possibility. Estrogen rises like the morning sun, lifting your mood and sparking new ideas. You may feel like a seed pushing through the soil, ready to explore and create. This is your time to plant intentions, embrace new challenges, and fill your days with activities that awaken your energy.

Phase 3 - Summer

Ovulation (3 - 4 days)

Ovulation is summer in full bloom, the garden of your body at its most vibrant. Confidence flows like a river, and connection feels as natural as breathing. You may feel like a flower at its peak, open to the world and radiating warmth. Use this high-energy window to connect, create, and celebrate the fullness of your inner summer.

Phase 4 - Autumn

Luteal (12 - 14 days)

The Luteal Phase is autumn, when the air cools and the world slows. Progesterone rises like a gentle evening tide, bringing steadiness at first, then the soft pull toward rest. As the days pass, you may feel the weight of clouds before rain, PMS symptoms like mood shifts or fatigue may appear. This is a time to gather comfort around you, like a cozy blanket, and tend to your inner garden before winter returns.
